Ms. Scanlon became associated with the firm in 2006. She concentrates on employee benefits, labor and employment law and primarily represents multi-employer fringe benefit funds and unions. Ms. Scanlon regularly provides counsel on issues involving ERISA, including fiduciary duties and obligations, participant/beneficiary claims, restatement of plan documents and review by the Internal Revenue Service, trust fund mergers and termination; the Affordable Care Act and HIPAA compliance. Ms. Scanlon also provides counsel in the evaluation and processing of grievances, arbitrations and unfair labor practice charges. Ms. Scanlon's litigation experience includes prosecuting and defending litigation in state and federal court involving a wide range of areas from mechanics liens to whistleblower retaliation claims and collecting delinquent fringe benefit contributions. Ms. Scanlon recently completed her first jury trial, assisting with jury instructions, jury selection and direct/cross examination of witnesses at the trial level.
Ms. Scanlon received her Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University in 1999, her law degree from The John Marshall Law School in 2006, and her Master of Laws in Employee Benefits degree from The John Marshall Law School in 2010. She is licensed to practice law in Illinois and is admitted to practice in the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the Northern District of Indiana. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the AFL-CIO Lawyers' Coordinating Committee. In her spare time, she regularly participates in philanthropic events benefiting various charitable organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Greater Chicago Food Depository and Feed My Starving Children and since 2013, she has served as treasurer for her sorority alumnae chapter.
